Spring Outdoor League:
Each
spring, the individual clubs in the WMYLC participate in an
outdoor league that follows classic outdoor field lacrosse
rules. Most clubs begin registrations in December and complete
registrations in late February. Late registrations may be
accepted into mid-March if the team rosters have vacancies. It
is important to make contact with the club coordinators in
December each year to arrange for registration. If a club has
enough additional players registered by late January to form
additional teams, there is time to make arrangements with the
Conference by that time. The listing of participating teams
for the outdoor league is finalized by the end of second week
of February each year.
Rules for the Outdoor Spring League are the same as the
National Federation Lacrosse Rule book (for boys) and the NCAA
Women’s Lacrosse Rule book (for girls). The WMYLC implements
some age specific exceptions to these rule books to adapt the
game to the abilities of the various age groups of players
participating.
The
Outdoor Spring League has the following team age groupings for
both boys and girls:
High School Club:
Open to High School attendees that do not make High School
JV and Varsity teams.
Under 15 (U15):
Open to players under 15 years, that are also in the 8th grade in school.
Under 13 (U13):
Open to players under 13 years, that are also in 6th
and 7th grades in school.
Under 11 (U11):
Open to players under 11 years, that are also in 4th
and 5th grades in school.
Under 9 (U9):
Open to players under 9 years, that are also in K, 1st , 2nd
and 3rd grades in school.
Age
cutoff is December 31 of each year. Players may play “up” an
age group. Players may only play “down” an age/grade group
with a special exception from the WMYLC Commissioner.
The
Outdoor Spring League is structured so that each team begins
practices on March 1. Teams typically practice 2 to 3 times
each week until games begin the third week of March. Teams
will typically play one game per week for a total of between 8
and 10 games. Generally, boys teams play on Saturdays and
Girls teams play on Sundays. Once games begin, many teams
adopt a two practice per week schedule. Each team has
independent practice and game fields located in the area near
each club. Most teams play ½ the games at their home field and
the other ½ of the games traveling to the other teams in the
conference. At the end of the Outdoor Spring League, usually
right after Memorial Day, the conference holds at conference
wide round robin tournament of all teams. This is typically
held at Mount St Mary’s College. At the tournament, all of the
players in the WMYLC receive an award to recognize their
participation in the conference.
Fees
charged by each club for the Outdoor Spring League range from
between $50 and $150 per player. The fees cover league
administrative costs, referee fees, insurance fees, and team
costs. Some teams have loaner equipment, many require players
to provide their own equipment.
Summer League:
The
WMYLC offers a summer league that last approximately 8 weeks
during the months of June, July, and August. Each team
typically plays one game per week. There are not typically
practices associated with Summer League. Summer League
generally follows the same rules as the Outdoor Spring League.
Fees for Summer League range between $80 and $120 per player.
In Summer League, players typically supply their own
equipment.
